Thank you for a very articulate expression of the confusion this film presented for me. My first reaction was to feel "put off' by the film because I didn't feel represented...I'm black & none of this was close to anything I was ever exposed to. Precious had just too many "Bad" things happen to her over and over. She did survive and kept moving through it. After seeing it the second time (why? because everyone else kept raving about how good it was), the latter point became more obvious. Monique really did play her part. Why do we get Oscars for always being the bad guy? When the song "It's hard out Here for a Pimp" won for best song years ago, I knew I'd be lost forever.
