H/T (i.e. Hat Tip) to Washington Post editorial cartoonist Tom Toles for so vividly affirming the obvious about The New Yorker's utter lack of cultural competency (or base-level judgment).

Does anybody remember that during the O.J.Simpson trial a major U.S. magazine ran a head photo of OJ on the cover. The problem is that OJ wasn't black enough for them, so they simply had their resident artist make him look darker. Magazine covers messing with black folks is an old story, so I'm not surprised at the New Yorker's bad taste.
