I understand the need to extend the reach of the internet and cable to the Black community as a public policy issue. There is also a need to let market forces work themselves out.

The private sector is going to focus on wealthier and whiter suburban areas because of the profit potential.

The question we need to answer is how do we, African Americans, make our dollars work for us???

The wealth gap is huge. We need public policy that puts internet and cable jobs into our communities then the services will follow. We need public policy that puts math, science and technology job training and education into our communities and those services will follow.

Finally, we need public policy to recognize the unique challenges to wealth creation by African Americans in many urban communities and to then work to reduce those barriers.

Then, the private sector will flow with its services to our communities. Who'd thought that Harlem would be experience the gentrification that is occuring there now?

Who?

This is a great article that relates to some of the problems of internet structure and power that came up in the "Take Back America" conference session you participated in.

Cheers--
